Landcommanderij Alden Biesen is enthousiast om de kunst van storytelling te verjongen en nieuw talent een internationaal podium te geven.
Als organisator van het International Storytelling Festival en hoofdzetel van FEST (Federation for European Storytelling) werkt Alden Biesen mee aan het twee jaar durende Cassandra Project van de Europese Unie. Dit grensoverschrijdende initiatief brengt ervaren storytellers en festivalorganisatoren uit Noorwegen, Zweden, Polen, Nederland en België samen met jong talent om verhalen te creëren rond actuele sociale thema's. Het doel? Jong opkomend talent een stem geven en hen een internationaal podium bieden om hun verhaal te vertellen.
Het Cassandra Project kadert binnen het Creative Europe programma van de Europese Unie. Elk deelnemend land werkt met drie jonge storytellers, die begeleid worden door ervaren mentoren. In België worden de jonge talenten Winter De Cock, Ynys Convents en Daan Arnauts gecoacht door Tom Van Mieghem. Samen ontwikkelen ze persoonlijke voorstellingen waarin ze sociale uitdagingen aanpakken door middel van krachtige verhalen. Deze samenwerking belooft grensverleggende vertellingen, vol authenticiteit en creativiteit.
Ontmoet de Belgische storytellers
Winter De Cock, 22 jaar, studeerde schrijven en media- en performancestudies aan het Conservatorium van Antwerpen. Ze laat zich inspireren door oude verhalen, maar geeft ze een eigentijdse twist door ze te koppelen aan vrouwelijke hoofdpersonen van nu. Als je goed luistert tijdens haar voorstelling "Am I not your girl?" hoor je de ziel van het verhaal en de hartslag van de mensheid.
Ynys Convents is een jonge verhalenverteller uit Antwerpen en rondt momenteel haar master Nederlandse literatuur af. Ze is dagelijks bezig met het schrijven van poëzie en verhalen. Ynys' liefde voor verbinding met een publiek en haar sterk gemeenschapsgevoel worden weerspiegeld in haar persoonlijke verhaal "The Stork That Raised Me: The Antipelargy of a Family".
Daan Arnauts is afkomstig uit Brussel en recent afgestudeerd in theater. Hij brengt met "Have you ever been called a wh*re?" een persoonlijke vertelling die humor en maatschappelijk engagement combineert. Naast storytelling is hij gepassioneerd door Waacking, een expressieve dansstijl uit de queer- en poc-gemeenschap van de westkust van Amerika. Daan speelt met de grenzen van dans, theater en verhalen.
De kunstvorm storytelling toegelicht
Storytelling is een eeuwenoude kunstvorm waarin verhalen worden gebruikt om kennis, cultuur en waarden door te geven. Het is een krachtig middel om menselijke ervaringen te delen, zowel in intieme settings als voor een breder publiek. Binnen projecten zoals Cassandra krijgt storytelling een hedendaagse invulling: het wordt een manier om complexe sociale kwesties te onderzoeken en persoonlijke verhalen een universele betekenis te geven. Door middel van verhalen kunnen we de wereld beter begrijpen en de stem van de jeugd krachtiger laten klinken.
Voorstellingen
De eerste voorstellingen van de Belgische deelnemers vinden plaats op vrijdag 11 oktober 2024 in muziekclub ‘t Ey in Belsele en op zaterdag 26 oktober in ‘t Werkhuys te Antwerpen.
Het project kent zijn hoogtepunt tijdens het algemene event op 3, 4 en 5 november in De Vlugt in Amsterdam.
